Wanted: Air Guitar Skills
Celebrate Hillsboro is Saturday, July 21, and this year’s Guinness Book of World Records attempt is to create the largest air guitar ensemble: most people playing Air Guitar simultaneously in a single place. If you’ve been looking for a chance to put those long hours of air guitar practice to good use, come to Hillsboro Main Street … and bring some friends. The number to beat is 2,377 people.
When: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21
Where: East Main Street, next to Jasmine Thai Cuisine, on south side of Hillsboro Civic Center
What to bring: show up with your air guitar, stay in line to be properly counted and receive a free guitar pick
Song to practice: Rockin’ in the Free World by Neil Young – attempt begins at high noon after everyone is counted
More info: see Celebrate Hillsboro webpage and The Oregonian’s air guitar cheat sheet
Rock ‘n’ Roll seems to be a theme in Hillsboro this year. In April, I helped Hillsboro Finance Department with design and layout of their first Strategic Plan. They approached it in a way that let their personality as a department shine. As the director put it: “We abandoned words like “process” because those words shout boring and bureaucratic. Instead of a process, we decided to go on a journey as a department to figure where we are headed and how to get there. Not only can a journey be the course of traveling through the steps of strategic planning, but it is also probably the greatest rock band of all time!!!!!!”
The title: “Finance JOURNEY 2012″, and the graphic elements included an electric guitar, piano keys and definitely more cowbell than you’ll find in your typical strategic plan. My thanks to project manager Ben Rowe for the opportunity to contribute to this fun and creative print design project.
